We got into the truck and started driving to the hospital. I think both of us were excited inside. We stopped at the gas station by the hospital to get something to eat really fast. I asked him to get me a bear claw but of course he went in and came back out within seconds saying there wasn't any. So I was kinda grouchy and got out of the truck to find the bear claw and my water gushed. I had a pad on but that did nothing I soaked through and was waddling back out to the truck lol.
We got to the hospital and checked in at 8 am I waddled to our room. They checked to make sure my water broke and then hooked me up to the monitor and started an IV. It took 3 pokes to get my IV in, I was a little irritated at my first nurse. When I was hooked to the monitor Paige's heart rate was not showing as many variables as they liked so they had me walk for an hour around the hallway to see if her heart rate would look better. We walked around the hallway and of course I wasn't have STRONG contraction and was still smiling but every time we would lap a woman that was in hard labor it was a bit awkward for us because she was hurting. Kaleb kept saying,"that looks like fun and we will be there soon." Once our hour was up I got hooked up again and her heart rate was still not looking as good as they wanted. So first they switched me side to side and then put me on 02. Around 1 pm they Finally started me on Pitocin. I started contracting, my mom came to the hospital to hang out with us around that time. I was still not in any pain just mild contractions. They wouldn't check me because my water broke and they didn't want to cause a risk of infection. They kept bumping it up and contractions kept getting stronger. My mom went home around 5 to get some rest. I asked the nurse if I was able to eat anything because I assumed I wasn't able to eat and the nurse assumed I knew I could eat. So I hadn't eaten since 7 am and was starving. We ordered my tray and waited another hour.
My contraction were starting to take my breath away. I asked the nurse about the jetted tub. The nurse said it would be fine but they were cleaning the tub and I would have to wait and they also needed to keep me hooked up to the monitor so they would have to get a portable monitor from telemetry. It took the nurse about an hour to figure out the machine another nurse came in and figured it out. I was getting to the point of being impatient and irritated because I was hurting so bad. The nurse suggested while we were waiting to get on all fours and have Kaleb press on my hips. That relieved some of the pain. Finally around 6:30 pm they got the tub ready and we headed to the room. I was in a lot of pain so just walking hurt so bad. I set in the tub for about 45 minutes it relieved some pain but not enough. I snacked on my dinner mostly just the fruit because food didnt sound the best. The nurses were having a change in shift and I was VERY lucky. My OB professor that taught me in PN school was working so I got for pleasure for her to be my nurse which was a relieve because the previous nurse I was not impressed with.
Around 7:30 pm I finally asked for the epidural. Kaleb and Sherri (the nurse) helped me get dressed and headed to the room and thank the Lord the anesthesiologist was waiting for me! :D I got the epidural and it wasn't as scary as I thought and relieved the pain fast. The nurse checked me finally and I was dilated to 5cm and 90%-95% effaced. I was a little bummed at only the 5 cm but she said you have to efface first before you dilate. After I got the epidural shortly after I started feeling very nauseous which they said was a side effect from low blood pressure. I had Kaleb get me a puke bag and puked everything in my stomach. My b/p was low and the nurse gave me some medications to increase it and gave me some zofran for my nausea. For the rest of the night I tried resting on and off while they watched my blood pressure and frequently gave me medication to keep it up.
My mom came back around 12:30 am because she was biting at the bit. We rested on and off the rest of the night. The anesthesiologist gave me the perfect epidural because I could feel my legs the hole time and move them but it took the edge off the contractions. Around 3 am my temperature started being naughty and was increasing. The nurse encouraged me to deep breath and cough. I also had kaleb get a cold wash cloth to put on my neck and forehead. The nurse also told me if my temp went above 100.4 degrees they would have to put me on antibiotics and baby would have to go to NICU. So I was trying everything for that not happen. The highest my temp got was 100.3 but started going down thank goodness. Prayer works :)
I started feeling a lot of pressure around 4 am and she checked me again I was 8 cm and almost completely effaced but had a little cervical lip and she had dropped to a +2 station :). I knew it was getting closer. I kept getting nervous because with every contraction I felt the pressure in my butt so I was scared she was there. This went on until 7 am with shift change. I was ready to go but nurses and docs were switching my Doctor had another procedure so they turned off my pitocin. Waiting sucked. The nurse came in and I started to push around 8:45 am I started in the standard on your back position with legs in stirrups and pushed a couple times. Her heart rate was being bad again so they placed oxygen on me. With the first push they could see her hair a little bit but she kept going back up. I was getting a little irritated because I wanted to now! The nurse said, "Honey with your first you will probably be pushing at least 2 hours." To me this was a challenge there was no way I was going to be pushing that long! They asked kaleb if he wanted to count for me, The first time he counted he started, "One one thousand, Two one thousand." I gave him the exorcist look because I was not having that LOL everyone started laughing. I pushed a couple times more on my back and was not feeling it. So I asked if I could get in a squatting position. Since I had feeling still in my legs they got the squatting bar and I squatted with each contractions. My contractions were about 5 to 6 minutes apart, so a lot of the time we were watching the stupid monitor to wait for a contraction. We once again changed positions. They kept the squatting and I placed my foot on each side of the bar and they wrapped a towel around the top and I pulled and pushed, this was effective and the doctor started to get dressed and ready to go I had been pushing for about 30 minutes already. With one of the pushes meconium had come out so they called NICU to be with her one on one. I pushed a couple more times and she arrived at 9:46 am they cord was wrapped around her neck twice and I was bleeding quiet a bit so the Doctor told kaleb to cut the cord quick and they handed beautiful Paige to the nursing team. She looked amazing. I was bleeding a lot the nurse came up to me and pushed on my stomach VERY hard and kaleb said, "it looked like a wave of blood and my mom said she saw about 15 large clots come out of me. They gave me a shot in my leg and shortly after my bleeding slowed down. Paige was doing great and the NICU team had no concerns with her :) Kaleb held her and brought her over to me while the doctor was working on me. I had never been so in love and so tired at the same time :) Kaleb right away looked like a proud daddy <3
